Live Lounge

All of a sudden, after this months issue of Q to be precise, myself and a fellow housemate have become obsessed with Live Lounge covers from Jo Whiley's show on Radio 1. I have never been a radio listener so have lived my life oblivious to the wonders created live on this show, and the added fact I can't stand Jo Whiley didn't help. Between us we have stumbled across some awesome interpretations of contemporary songs, with the help of Limewire and Morpheus. My pick is below:

  • 'Love Machine' by Girls Aloud, Covered by Arctic Monkeys
  • 'What You Waiting For?' by Gwen Stefani, Covered by Franz Ferdinand
  • 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N' Roses, Covered by Mylo
  • 'Lyla' by Oasis, Covered by Foo Fighters
  • 'Get Your Freak On' by Missy Elliot, Covered by KT Tunstall
  • 'Feel Good Inc.' by Gorillaz, Covered by Editors
  • 'Crazy In Love' By Beyonce Feat. Jay-Z, Covered by The Magic Numbers
  • 'Hey Ya!' by The Outkast, Covered by Razorlight
  • Full list of covers can be found on Wikipedia.

Now, I am no saint, but I would aspire to not encourage illegal downloading. But from what i have read around the net, when it comes to bootlegs, is that artists are cool about people sharing songs simply to enjoy the music. At the end of the day, there is no other way for some "hardcore" fans to get hold of some material other than P2P, torrent or trading. As long as it isn't already commercially available material and it isn't being sold on eBay, they don't mind.

I found most of the above via Limewire, but the Franz Ferdinand track was from this months Q magazine. It should be noted that about half these songs, plus about another 35, are soon to be available (29th May) on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge CD.
