…Pre-installed with Linux *UPDATED*
Thursday, 29 March 2007
Dell have announced today that they will start selling computers pre-installed with Linux.
The company say this is due to high customer demand (70% of a 100,000 customer survey). There’s no word as of yet which version of Linux will be inlcuded.
Nick Veitch, senior editor of Linux Format magazine, said “I think it sends a message in two ways; One is that a major company is confident enough to be able to offer Linux preinstalled on a desktop – that sends a signal that Linux is usable to the average user – and I think it shows that there is a growing demand for an alternative to Windows.”
To understand more about Linux, what it is and what the different versions are, check the Info page of the Linux website and the Linux Wikipedia page.
*UPDATE* BBC New website today confirmed Dell has chosen Ubuntu as the pre-installed OS.
