A new R.E.M. CD… And I Feel Fine
Tuesday, 25 July 2006
Although i already have the last Best Of R.E.M.: The IRS Years (when IRS cashed in on their ex-employees during R.E.M.’s rise on the Warner Bros. label), they always tempt me with a rarities cd. If you are not a massive R.E.M. fan then you can get cheap copies of their original IRS best of, which has pretty much the same tracklisting. But the deluxe-2CD version is tempting to fans, especially 80s demos of ‘Bad Day‘ and ‘All the Right Friends‘. AND the artwork on the new compilation is better ;o)
See the REMhq story, here.

I’m as big of an REM fan as they come. I bought CHRONIC TOWN when it first arrived, I even had the original Hibtone single (God, I wish I STILL had it…), so I have to say the strongest years in REM’s career are the IRS Years, by far. This new collection, in particular the 2CD version, stands head and shoulders above the WARNER BROS. stuff. They were a magical rock band then, full of mystery and GUITARS (where DID those jangly sounds go?). They were an album band then now they’re a singles band, I still love ‘em but man I sure liked Michael Stipe better when I only thought I knew what he was singing about.
